TANVI MEHTA

The project aims to explore the concept of modesty prevalent during the 1960s and 1970s, a period marked by the coexistence of diverse cultures in Singapore. Notably, the Malay community constituted a significant proportion of the population, prompting a shift in fashion culture towards modest attire to accommodate their preferences. This transition is analogous to the principles of the Zen method, a traditional practice in Malay cultures aimed at reducing stress and anxiety.

Through the lens of modest fashion, the project will delve into how shapes and designs serve as tools to alleviate stress and anxiety. By incorporating elements inspired by the Zen method, such as simplicity and harmony, the garments will reflect a sense of tranquility and mindfulness. This approach not only honors cultural traditions but also highlights the significance of adapting fashion to cater to diverse cultural sensibilities.
